'Cuse Hoops Gears Up For Fordham

SU Athletics

Syracuse basketball (1-0) takes on the Fordham Rams (1-0) Tuesday night inside the Carrier Dome in its 2nd regular season contest. The Orange comes off an 82-60 win over Cornell in its season opener. Eighth-ranked SU was led by Trevor Cooney, who netted a career-high 27 points.

After his career game, Cooney admitted that it was easier to play knowing that he was staying in the game even if he missed one or two shots.

"Knowing you don't have to look over your shoulder is big,'' the redshirt sophomore said. "Just knowing that your responsibilities are a little bigger and just stepping up to the plate and be ready for it.''

Cooney also added a game-high four steals for Syracuse. ACC pre-season player of the year C.J. Fair contributed with 19 points, and Rakeem Christmas chipped in with 12.

Before a crowd of 24, 788, the Orange hoops team should expect a good crowd in the 2013-2014 season. Syracuse athletics has already announced there are over 20,000 season tickets sold.

Looking ahead to Fordham tomorrow night, the Rams come off an 87-67 opening night win over St. Francis (Pa.). Freshman guard John Severe scored a game-high 28 points, which is a Fordham record for points by a freshman in his first game. The rookie was also an impressive seven for ten from three-point range.
