New Details Released in Oswego County Child Abuse Case

Oswego County Sheriff's Office

More details are out about the incredible case of alleged abuse against two children in the Oswego County town of Albion. It’s resulted in abuse and child endangerment charges against four people.  Oswego County Under-Sheriff Gene Sullivan says after reports of months of abuse of a ten-year-old, the investigation is looking for details.

Really what we’re trying to do is put together what a typical day in this child’s life looked like, and it’s not a pretty picture. She worked all day clearing the brush, given the one meal. At some point she was taken by vehicle to this remote location and required to perform these physical tasks.

That included carrying heavy weights for hours in the middle of the night and even reportedly being dragged behind a car if she didn’t go fast enough. The girl was found with abrasions, filthy from not bathing in days, and malnourished. They also found abuse of another child.

We also learned that there was a three-year-old in the household. Mr. Bubis forced the three-year-old’s hand into a container of bowling water, causing some pretty severe burns to that child’s hand.”

Gary Bubis Jr faces assault charges, as do Shawn Whaley and Brandy Shaver.  Sullivan says the ten-year-old’s mother, Leslie-Ann Raeder was complicit.

“She likely was aware that this abuse was occurring. We don’t have an indication that she took any steps to stop it. And so we currently have her charged with endangering the welfare.”

More charges could be pending.  Sullivan says the children were taken to Gollisano Children’s Hospital for physical health needs. But he wonders what the ordeal might do to the children emotionally.
