This year’s announcement of the upcoming schedule for July’s Northeast Jazz and Wine festivalhad some special news.  Organizers have more to report than just the musical lineup.

The Northeast Jazz and Wine fest will be part of Arts Week – connected to the Arts and Crafts festival and other downtown happenings the last weekend of July.   POMCO will once again be the main sponsor.  Company spokesperson Jessica Marabella spilled the beans about the big news this year.

“As an organization we love the idea of bringing all members of our community to our beautiful downtown for three nights now, to listen to fabulous music.”

Expanding to three nights was the big news…and what the festival is adding is a Blues Sunday.  That will follow jazz lineups on both Friday and Saturday.

C-N-Y Jazz Arts Foundation President Larry Luttinger set up Funky Friday with the local jam band Atlas, preceded by funk-soul group “Nuf Said.”  Luttinger says Jazz Saturday will be quite diverse.

"Jazz in all of its forms from top to bottom.  From smooth jazz to Great American Songbook, from Brazilian jazz to new funky millennium jazz, even to country swing.  Jazz in absolutely every single one of its flavors, including scholastic jazz and community, avocational bands.”

The headliner Saturday is smooth jazz guitarist Chieli Menucci and special EFX.  The evening will also feature a quintet with Janis Siegel of Manhattan Transfer.  Sunday’s main attraction will be blues guitarist Duke Robbillard, topping a lineup that includes Los Blancos and other national and local acts.

The Wine part of the Jazz and Wine Fest will have five New York wineries along with once cidery, for tastings.  The festival grew out of the former Jazz in the Square…which dates back to 2002.  It’s July 24th, 25th and 26th in Clinton Square.
