A Cicero man who stabbed a woman to death and sexually assaulted a young girl after kidnapping them at Great Northern Mall plead guilty in court Wednesday.

David Renz will face life in prison without the chance for parole. Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick was grateful to all police agencies that investigated this horrific crime.

"From the bottom of my heart, I thank the men and women of the state police who put this case together. the ultimate reason that this defendant, David Renz, plead guilty was because as Chief Assistant Matt Dormer said because of the mountain of evidence they prepared against him. The dignity and respect that they treated this little girl with was as if she was their own daughter.”

"Putting a case like this together and coming to a conclusion within a four month period is truly incredible. it is truly one of the most heinous crimes you will ever come across and it came to the best possible conclusion it could at this point.”

Major Campbell of the State Police was present during David Renz’s court appearance.  Fitzpatrick says while Renz’s plea deal was airtight, the crime’s stinging effect remains.

“I do have this feeling of, ‘you're kidding me, this is the guy that committed this horrible, horrible act, caused so much heartache for Lori’s family, and has scarred this little girl for the rest of her life, and has affected everybody in this community.’ Nobody’s ever going to go to a place with their daughter in a mall the same way for the foreseeable future.”

Fitzpatrick believes the community should continue to go about their daily activities in order to deny Renz attention. The criminal’s plea can be withdrawn if federal prosecutors pursue the death penalty although Fitzpatrick has no assurance that will happen.
