Syracuse Lax Falls in National Championship

Despite a 5-0 lead early on, the 2013 season ended in disappointment for the Syracuse Orange. Duke defeated SU in the National Championship game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia 16-10. It is the 2nd National Championship in program history for the Blue Devils.

The loss was SU's first in a national championship game since 2001, ending a string of four straight national-title game victories for the Orange.

"We had the early lead in the game and we were obviously feeling good about things, but we were smart enough to know it's a game of runs, especially with all of the games we've been in," Syracuse coach John Desko said. "I told John (Duke Coach John Danowski) after the game to buy his faceoff guy a big steak because he deserves one. We just couldn't get the ball in the second half."

Dylan Donahue led Syracuse with three goals while JoJo Marasco chipped in two tallies as well, but it wasn't enough for the 'Cuse.

Donahue and Marasco represented Syracuse on the all-tournament team along with goalie Dominic Lamolinara and defenseman Sean Young. Lamolinara had 19 saves in the two games this weekend, including 11 Monday against the Blue Devils.

The loss snapped Syracuse's 7-game winning streak and ends the Orange's season with a record of 16-4, which is tied for the most wins in a single season in program history.
