Finding medical care in rural areas of Upstate New York
could be quite quite a challenge as recently as 20 years ago.
Many of the existing country physicians were aging and
retiring, and very few were coming along to replace them. But
in 1989, a Syracuse-based doctor started a unique program to
try and ease the shortage by immersing medical students in a
rural environment with hopes they would start or join a
practice there. WAER'S Scott Willis takes a look at how it's
