Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Syracuse and am still firmly rooted in
Fayetteville, N.Y. Somehow, I've managed to keep the
same phone number that we had when I was 3! Once in a
while I dream about "getting out" but then I see people
I grew up with coming back after all these years to
raise their families here. That's when I sit back and
say, "I knew you'd be back!"
When did you begin working at WAER?
I returned to SU to take on my role in Development at WAER back
in March of 2002. Time does fly when you're having
fun! I am always amazed to see people still working
here after all these years...that says a lot about this
university and its culture throughout campus.
What do you do at WAER?
I consider myself one of the station's ambassadors to the
community. My primarily focus is Corporate Development,
increasing WAER's corporate and cultural awareness and
support of the station. I work with all kinds of
businesses and organizations - from major corporate
underwriters to local, family owned businesses and not
for profits, providing them the opportunity to reach our
listeners with their individually crafted messages. I
view each new day as an opportunity to spend time with
interesting, intelligent, eclectic people who believe in
the value of public radio as much as I do.
What was the most unusual job you ever had?
I've had a few; the first was working a beer stand for Sutter's
Mill during the State Fair (too scary to get into) and
the second, selling huge 50 Lb. boxes of Sears brand
laundry detergent over the phone along with Maintenance
Agreements....they bought the stuff almost every time!
Why do you love public radio?
The close interaction and cultural awareness it provides -
locally, nationally and globally. Now more than ever I
think it's important to feel connected and I believe
public radio provides this in a wonderfully credible
way. It's democracy at work!
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my beautiful family (husband, son and
step daughter) and friends and love working on our 150+
year old Greek Revival home. You'll usually find me
either outside working on our gardens, chasing our
almost 3-year old son around helping him look for bugs
or holding a tape measure in my hand calculating our
next renovation project. I'm also addicted to the Home
Channel and various other "how to" shows.
What is your favorite quote?
"Be
who you are and say what you feel because those who mind
don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
- Dr. Seuss
"Time
is a thief when you're undecided." - Rod Stewart
