Syracuse Unable to Repeat Upset Against Clemson

After the first 4-0 start since 1991, Syracuse and head coach Dino Babers looked to upset the Clemson Tigers for the second year in a row. Unfortunately, that was not the case this year as the Clemson Tigers defended their turf in Death Valley with a score of 27-23.

Clemson’s head coach Dabo Swinney named five-star freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the starter over senior Kelly Bryant. This decision came after Lawrence’s stellar performance against Georgia Tech last week. However, Clemson fans experienced déjà vu just before the first half ended.

The Orange opened their season away from the Carrier Dome last week for the first time in five years. Senior quarterback Eric Dungey had 384 all-purpose yards and 3 total touchdowns, propelling his team to a 55-42 win against Western Michigan.

Home field advantage can be the deciding factor in a closely contested sporting event. It's largely what NBA and NFL teams work so hard to obtain heading into the playoffs.

When Syracuse and Kansas met earlier this year neither team had a home court advantage. That was probably something SU should be thankful about, as WAER's Noah Eagles takes a look at what make Kansas so unbeatable at home.

NC State 42, Syracuse 29: Orange Drop Eighth Straight

Nov 21, 2015

Syracuse suffered an eighth consecutive loss on Saturday, falling 42-29 to the NC State Wolfpack at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. The loss means Syracuse will end the season without a win away from the Carrier Dome, as the Orange are now 0-5 on the road.

Syracuse lost in wire-to-wire fashion yet again on Saturday, this time falling 37-27 to Clemson at the Carrier Dome.

After falling behind 14-0 in the game’s final minutes, Syracuse actually outscored Clemson for the remainder of the game. That was thanks in large part to the play of walk-on quarterback Zack Mahoney, who started in the place of freshman quarterback Eric Dungey. But in the end, it wasn’t quite enough for the Orange (3-7, 1-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) to upset the Tigers (10-0, 7-0).

Syracuse football offensive coordinator Tim Lester said that last week's game at Florida State was the "fastest" game freshman quarterback Eric Dungey has played in.

The Seminoles, which have college football's 24th-best defense, were -- statistically speaking -- the best defense Dungey has played against this season, and it showed. Dungey completed just 11 of 24 passes for 120 yards and no touchdowns, but he did rush for 46 yards and two touchdowns.

Those block-letter SYR jerseys the Syracuse Crunch wear every now and then sure look nice.

Syracuse Football Loses Big to Florida State

Oct 31, 2015

Behind a strong offensive performance both through the air and on the ground, Florida State topped Syracuse, 45-21, at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Syracuse falls to 3-5 overall on the season and to 1-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Orange must now win three of its final five games to become bowl eligible. Meanwhile, Florida State improves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the win.

Through five games played in 2015, Eric Dungey has been -- statistically speaking -- one of the best quarterbacks in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He leads it in passer rating and yards per attempt. He's also thrown nine touchdowns to just one interception.

Dungey has succeeded by using a combination of his arm and legs, a rare quarterback who's efficient in both areas. But he's about to face his biggest test yet this season on Saturday. That's when Syracuse will welcome Pittsburgh to the Carrier Dome at noon.

Jordan Fredericks was lying in his bed and scrolling through Twitter on Monday when he learned the news. Syracuse had released its Week 7 depth chart ahead of Saturday's game at Virginia, and the freshman running back was listed as the starter for the first time this season.

“It’s pretty awesome,” he said in an interview with Cuse.com
