The State Department of Environmental Conservation recently adopted regulations to address e-waste management to improve and to provide further clarity about the state’s 2010 Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act.

The expanded act has new regulations that orders producers to place recycling emblems on product packaging to alert consumers when mercury, alongside other harmful chemicals, is present.

The new regulations also increase recycling opportunities available to consumers and require producers to cover costs as they implement their-own electronic waste programs.
