The Green Party has announced candidates Howie Hawkins, a Syracuse resident, and Gloria Mattera are running for governor and lieutenant governor of New York.
This announcement comes following a new law, coined the Ballot Access Exclusion Law by the Green Party, which requires candidates to garner three times as many signatures than they did previously to secure a spot on the ballot. Because of this law, the Green Party said it and three other minority parties were excluded from the 2020 election, according to a news release from the Hawkins-Mattera campaign.
The candidates are running on a platform which promotes an Ecosocialist Green New Deal, the New York Health Act, the elimination of poverty and ranked choice voting.
