Members of law enforcement in New York State were honored at the state fair Monday. As a part of the special event, state and local leaders gathered in front of the fairgrounds’ Veterans Memorial to honor officers who died in the line of duty. New York State Attorney General Letitia James thanked those in law enforcement and acknowledged those who have suffered from a loss.
"Words obviously cannot heal their souls and their hearts, but today we honor them. We honor them for all that they have done for us each and every day. And we pray that those officers who put on their badge each and every morning, as they leave their families, that they come home to them at night," James said.
Current law enforcement officers ended the ceremoniy by reading the 88 names of those who died in the line of duty this past year.
