The construction unemployment rate in New York dropped by 1.7% in September, decreasing from 6% to 4.3% from the year prior, according to the Associated Builders and Contractors.
The decrease is the 11th largest percentage drop in the U.S., putting New York ahead of the national average decline in 2021 by 1.1%.
ABC Chapter President Brian Sampson said in a release the results show New Yorkers are ready to return to work and are making a steady return. He also said it's an excellent sign for the industry and the state economy. The construction unemployment rate is not seasonally adjusted.
"New York goes as the construction industry goes," Sampson. "It hasn't been easy over the last couple of years with the worker shortage, but ABC members have weathered the storm, and they've continued to build and develop communities. We look forward to seeing the industry's unemployment numbers drop even further."
