Onondaga County is making emergency repairs to a large sewer line after crews discovered a small leak on an embankment near Onondaga Lake. The county has received permission from the state to allow partially treated sewage to flow into Bear Trap Creek, Ley Creek, and the southern portion of Onondaga Lake until repairs are complete.

People are advised to avoid swimming, fishing, and canoeing in those waters. Work is expected to begin Monday on the leak near the Onondaga Creekwalk and C-S-X railroad. Meanwhile, the area is closed to the public, and crews will monitor pipeline discharge and collect water samples from Onondaga Lake to assess any risk.
