Domestic violence programs across New York will now have access to free overdose emergency kits. Governor Kathy Hochul announced Thursday that metal boxes containing naloxone — which can reverse an opioid overdose — will be mounted on the walls of shelters and other service providers.

State officials say research shows a strong correlation between domestic violence and substance abuse. For example, survivors may be coerced to use drugs or turn to them to help cope with abuse-related trauma.

Free harm reduction supplies are available for individuals and organizations online.
