New York State has declared a public health threat after an Ulster County resident died of Eastern Equine Encephalitis. It’s the first human case of triple-E in nearly a decade.

The state is launching mosquito mitigation efforts, including spraying and making insect repellent available for visitors at state parks and campgrounds.

The state is also posting signs at campgrounds, historic sites, and other state lands to raise awareness of triple-E.

The state health department says triple-E mosquitoes are in 15 counties this year, compared to the typical two or three.
