The federal Chips and Science Bill continues to pay dividends for Central New York. Mohawk Valley chip maker, Wolfspeed has reached a preliminary funding agreement for $750 million, which unlocks another $750 million in private investment.

The Marcy based company is a leading global manufacturer of wafers and devices made from silicon carbide, which is safer than traditional silicon. The chips are used to power electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, as well as artificial intelligence and military applications.

Wolfspeed is just the latest recipient of Chips funds. Micron received $6.1 billion earlier this year, and Global Foundries near Albany received $1.5 billion, all in an effort to create a semi-conductor superhighway along I-90.
