A Central New York non-profit is offering assistance to families who have yet to register for the Child Income Tax Credit. PEACE Inc.'s Free Tax Prep Program is encouraging families to reach out for assistance or to answer questions.
The American Rescue Plan Actexpanded eligibility to be more inclusive of immigrant and lower-income filers. It removed the minimum income requirements, raised the qualifying ages, and is providing advanced payments. Additionally, the Child Tax Credit, or any stimulus check, will not affect immigration status. The IRS does not share citizenship information with any other federal agency.
