Cora Thomas, affectionately known as “Syracuse’s First Lady of Gospel,” is a lifelong Syracusan and proud mother of 3. As Syracuse University’s WAER Office Supervisor and a gospel radio broadcaster, she has dedicated her life to uplifting her community through faith, music, and service. Her involvement with organizations such as Syracuse University’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Syracuse Stage, Westcott Festival, Syracuse Orchestra and the Juneteenth Festival reflects her commitment to unity and cultural celebration. As Ancestral Celebration Chairperson, she honors the rich heritage of the African American community and fosters collaboration between local faith leaders and government officials such as Mayor Ben Walsh and Onondaga County Executive J. Ryan McMahon in addition to others.

For over 30 years, Cora has been the trusted voice of gospel broadcasting at WAER 88.3, inspiring listeners with her Sunday morning show. A gifted communicator and director of a Community Choir, she brings people together through music, creating & sponsoring events that connect diverse audiences. Whether mentoring students, leading faith initiatives, or organizing community celebrations, Cora’s work embodies the transformative power of faith, culture, and connection, making her a cherished figure in Central New York.
