5,000 Jobs to Fill in Central New York. Intrigued? Then Get to Work!

John Smith, WAER News

Hundreds of Central New Yorkers made their way to the On-Center today to look for one of 5,000 new jobs.  200 booths representing businesses, manufacturing, government, healthcare, and service organizations were set up.  Job Seekers such as Kevin Hallock put on their best attire, brought their resumes and then prepared to work the room.

“… And a couple of years ago I had an opportunity to go back to school. So, I have a Masters degree now and the last 14 years I was in outside sales. So, I was responsible for about a four million dollar territory.”

Hallock has been out of work since April.  Hopefully, one of the jobs today will be the right opportunity he’s been searching for.  Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul greeted some job seekers and she reassured us that all of the jobs are local.

Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul and Senator Dave Valesky (L) and Assemblymember Al Stirpe (R).

“Yes, these are Central New York jobs. There’s over 5,000 available. We have 200 companies represented, which is huge. Also, the Governor has something called New York Jobs Express which is an online opportunity for anybody who wants to see what’s available. There’s over 7,200 jobs on that site, as well.”

Hochul adds she’s always hearing from businesses across the state who express they have openings they can’t seem to fill.  Sometimes it makes sense for people to look at temporary jobs.  Division Specialist at C-P-S Recruitment in Liverpool, Kelly Mengel says they’re always recruiting.

“We have a variety of different positions between Administrative and Manufacturing. We have an Engineering Department, higher level Administrative job.”
