Chance to Set the Record Staight, Cuse Hosts #13 Army

Cuse.com

For the fifth year in a row, the Orange will play three consecutive games versus New York schools to start the season. Through two games, the Orange is 1-1 after a surprise hiccup against unranked Colgate that came before they pummeled #14 Albany.

That now behind them, the 17th ranked Orange (1-1) will have an opportunity to boast a winning record, before their first conference game vs. Virginia, with a win over #13 Army (3-0) Sunday at 4:00.

Syracuse did their best last week to erase the stain left by Colgate, cleansing themselves with a 13-5 beatdown over Albany. Bradley Voigt did the washing, leading the way with 6 goals and ACC Player of the Week honors, while the Orange defense did the the drying. Cuse isn't out of the woods yet, as it will take much more than a win over Albany to turn this tide.

The Black Knights travel north unblemished after wins over UMASS, Rutgers, and Marist.

They’ve been led by two-time All American, defenseman Johnny Sirdick.

He’s the main reason why Army has been able to overcome an abysmal 27% on face-offs to start the season.

Freshman Brandon Nichtern has had a hand in their early success as well, leading the Black Knights with 13 points (7,6) to start the season.

The blueprint for the Orange will be to take care of the ball. They’ll have to take advantage in the face-off dot while doing their best to limit turnovers.

Cuse attackman Nate Solomon looks to continue his 19-game point streak on Sunday. 20 consecutive games with a point would be the highest since Dylan Donahue went on a 55 game campaign for the Orange.

With all the attention on Voigt, Sophomore Brendan Curry quietly leads the team with 9 points (5,4).

The last time these two met, it took three overtimes to deiced a winner. The Orange prevailed, winning the contest 11-10.

Syracuse is just 25-40 all time when facing West Point, but the Orange have won 20 of the last 23 tilts.
