COVID-19 Update: Number Of Active Cases Fall In Onondaga County, But New Cases Continue To Come In

CDC

Positive cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Onondaga County, but 41 total people have recovered. This means a decrease in active cases, or people who are presently sick. County Executive Ryan McMahon says as people continue to recover, they will continue to track this number.

“We’re also starting to chart the active cases in Onondaga County,” said McMahon. “So 186 active cases is actually less than what we had yesterday.”

McMahon reported 34 new positive cases Monday, bringing the county total to 228. And with the Onondaga County Health Department working its way through backlogged tests this weekend, the percentage of people who test positive has gone up to 7%. McMahon says it could still change.

“We’ll see if that number goes down a little bit or not,” said McMahon. “The negative tests are always reported later. But Positives, we get positives back very quickly. We’ll see what that number holds, if it goes down of if it holds around 7.”

McMahon says he expects more positive cases to come in, but more recoveries as well as long as people stick to social distancing guidelines. He also is asking for community members to volunteer and says it can be in any capacity. More information on volunteering, along with other resources can be found at the County Health website.
