Diners are getting reacquainted with going out to eat in person in downtown Syracuse after state restrictions were eased.  Now "Delicious Downtown Deals" through the entire month of February might help spur more business for local eateries.

Restaurants are offering special lunch or dinner menus and other promotions for $20.21, reflecting on the year.  The Downtown Committee's Merike Treier says local businesses have pivoted in extraordinary ways to keep the community safe

“Our ability to be able to offer this promotion is hugely important and speaks so much to what the restaurants have been doing to take all these smart steps in terms of making their spaces safe for customers. Doing the health checks the social distancing. Together we are excited to get through this,” said Treier

Treier says they’ll try to have the more traditional ‘Downtown Dining Weeks’ later in the spring, when more people are comfortable going out due to increased vaccinations.  She notes those promotions bring 35-to-45,000 people to establishments.  David Hoyne of Kitty Hoyne’s hopes this promotion – and increased safety measures – will be a lifeline.

“Every kind of restaurant is different depending what their mix is from food to actual beverage,” said Hoyne. “So you have restaurants that are maybe down 60%. Places have actually closed. Restaurants are still kind of hanging on there. So anything we can provide to put a positive image out there.”

To that end, Health Way of Pulaski donatedair purification systems to 18 restaurants and other retail businesses last week.

The "Delicious Downtown Deals" promotion includes free admission to the Everson Museum of Art and the MOST to help bring in business.
