Seven Syracuse area organizations who rescue and take care of animals are hoping you’ll support their efforts in December with a goal to raise up to $100,000 with matching gifts.  Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 2, Staffworks will match their donations up to $10,000 each and then $1,000 per every $5,000 raised thereafter.

Executive Director of Humane CNY, Christy McNeely, says the local area is over-populated with homeless animals.

"The only way we can change the overpopulation is by working together and realizing that the main problem is animal overpopulation, [but] that animal cruelty is also a huge problem. Working together solves problems; working against each other, not so much."

Animal supporter and Staffworks Founder and President Anita Vitullo says this years’ company fund will assist 29 animal organizations across 13 counties.

One rescue dog has already been adopted.

"We give back to those communities by supporting organizations that care for at-risk animals-- all non-profit organizations-- and this is representative of the Syracuse region here."

The CNY SPCA takes in animals for a variety of reasons.  Dee Schaeffer says they’re facing added costs.

"We just opened up our new building, and we have discovered that our spay/neuter costs have doubled just since the time we've been shut down."

Schaeffer is encouraging the public donate directly through Facebook on Giving Tuesday when the social media company will be matching up to $7 million in charitable donations.  The other local organizations are Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse, CNY Cat Coalition, Helping Hounds, Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter, and Spay and Neuter Syracuse.  The matching fund by Staffworks runs through December.  Click here for the donation page
