Fruit, Vegetables and Plenty of Eye-Opening 'Other' at the Regional Market

The Regional Market on Park Street pulls in shoppers for many reasons.

That plot of parking lot punctuated by sheds that sits smack dab in the middle of Destiny USA, NBT Bank Stadium and the Regional Transportation Center is a hot spot on Saturday and Sunday mornings year round. The official hours are from 7 a.m. to p.m. those days. (And on Thursdays as well from May to November.) Try finding a parking spot on the weekend from, say, 10 a.m. to noon.

The official description calls the place a Farmers Market on Saturdays and a Flea Market on Sundays.

Truth be known, it seems to be some of both always, with food vendors sprinkled among the shopping sheds as well.

On a recent Saturday stroll with my dear wife camera, I found plenty of interesting subjects to capture with my iPhone 6.

Inside a shed, shoppers take notice.

People of many ages were rushing about or taking their time on a bright and sunny day. Sellers were trying to draw attention to their goods with colorful signs or by sitting in chairs and waiting from customers to ask questions.

You can find a nice rhythm if you wish, keeping away from the sun while perusing the vendors set up inside the sheds and getting some rays while walking the rows of those who put their stuff up in the outdoor spaces between them.

And even a tutu.

Here's an alphabetical list of what I spotted for sale: Adirondack chairs, baseball caps, baseball cards, baseball jerseys, bread, cake, ceramics, cheese, clothes, coffee, cookies, curry, dog biscuits, dog bones, dolls, DVDs, flowers, fried dough, gloves, golf balls, hackysacks, handkerchiefs, hats, honey, hotdogs, jewelry, kabobs, knives, lemonade, maple syrup, meat, nuts, peanut brittle, pens, pickles, pies, pizza, pierogies, popcorn, posters, pottery, record albums, smart phone accessories, Shepherd's Pie, spices, stuffed toys, sunglasses,  tea, thermometers, tools, tutus, vegetables, wall hangings and wraps. Make that both the sandwich and sweater types.

You may find more on your trip.

Get walking.
