Orange Survive for Fifth Straight Conference Win

cuse.com

It was a nail biter in the Dome for the last four minutes, but the Orange sealed the victory against the Pittsburgh Panthers 69-61.

By the end of the first half, the Orange were up by 11 points. The Orange started on a  5-0 in the early going, and never looked back. They were tied for a short time at 5-5, but ended up leading for the remained of the game.

Syracuse led by as much as 16 points in the second half when they were ahead 51-35 with 9:20 remaining in the game. The Panthers then went on an impressive run and were only down by three with just under three minutes to play.

The game was sealed with an Elijah Hughes dunk which was followed up with two free throws made by the best free throw shooter in the country, Joseph Girard III, to complete an 8-3 run to end the game.

Syracuse’s leading scorer tonight was Buddy Boeheim who scored 21 points, going 4-8 from beyond the arc. Dolezaj was perfect in buckets tonight going 7-7 and scoring 17 points, the most he has scored since December 21st against North Florida.

The Orange are now on an impressive five game winning streak in conference play and continue to boost their resume for the NCAA tournament.

At times this season, Syracuse has struggled to hold onto leads late in games, which will have to change if they expect a win against Duke next week.

The Orange play their next game at the Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson. Clemson took down Duke a week and a half ago, and plays Louisville later today.
