Spectators at SU Graduation will face Metal Detectors

syr.edu website

The graduates, their families and other spectators are going to be greeted by increased security when they come to Syracuse University Graduation ceremonies.  Here's some advice for anyone attending.

The university makes ‘no mention’ of the Boston Marathon Bombing or any other recent threat of violence.  But a message on the S-U website, as well as one sent to students, informs people they’ll all be ‘going through metal detectors’ when they come to Sunday’s Graduation in the Carrier Dome.  Further, no bags or purses any larger than 10-inches by 10-inches will be allowed.  There’s also a list of more obvious banned items – firearms, large posters, anything inflatable or fireworks.  The restrictions carry over to all venues for convocations on Saturday as well.  The university advises to allow a little more time for the security measures…which they say will make the events “safe and enjoyable” … less than four weeks removed from the Boston tragedy.
