SU Football Heads to Maryland

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-The Orange (4-4, 2-2) is on its way to College Park, Maryland to take on the Terps (5-3, 1-3) at Byrd Stadium on Saturday. Syracuse enters the week coming off a shutout victory over conference foe Wake Forest to improve to 2-2 on the season.

The Orange looks to improve to a winning record for the first time in 2013. Syracuse hits the road for the third time in the last four outings when it renews its rivalry with the ACC Atlantic Division foe. The Orange scored two third-quarter touchdowns and the defense pitched its second shutout of the season in a 13-0 victory against Wake Forest on Nov. 2 at the Carrier Dome.

QB Terrel Hunt scored on a six-yard run and Brisly Estime caught a 25-yard touchdown from WR Jarrod West for the game's only points. SU forced 12 Demon Deacon punts, the second-most ever by an Orange opponent in a single game. Estime made his first career start and set personal bests for receptions (9) and yards (62).

As for Maryland, the Terps have been  riddled by injuries.  It's top two wide receivers, Stefon Diggs, and Deon Long, are out for the season with injury. The Terrapins have generally acquitted themselves well against the run (31st nationally at 137.8 yards per game), while Syracuse remains a run-heavy offense. Given that Maryland’s offense is less explosive without wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Deon Long and Syracuse is averaging 12.8 points in conference play, points should again be at a premium.

Finally, Maryland brings back it's starting QB this week, CJ Brown. The fifth-year senior (who already has received a sixth season from the NCAA after missing one full year with a torn ACL and all but four plays of another with a broken collarbone) is expected to return Saturday after missing the last game with an injury.

If SU wins, it would be SU's fifth straight victory against the Terps. A win could also put SU above .500 for the first time this year at 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the ACC. You can catch all the action on WAER starting at 3:00 PM on Saturday with Countdown to Kick-Off. The Orange and Terrapins kick off at 3:30 PM only right here on the Orginal Home of the Orange, WAER.
