Environmental groups are hoping NYS lawmakers will act on a series of measures to combat climate change and clean up pollution.

The legislation would phase in reductions in plastic packaging over several years and ban a practice known as “chemical recycling.” That’s where heat or chemical reactions break down some plastic materials so they can eventually be used in new products.

With just seven days left of the official 2023 legislative session, advocates for a measure that would reduce plastic packaging by half say their bill is gaining momentum.

The State Department of Environmental Conservation recently adopted regulations to address e-waste management to improve and provide further clarity about the state’s 2010 Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act.
