With more sales tax payments arriving, Onondaga County officials are getting a fuller picture of economic struggles ahead. Sales tax is down about 7 %. If that trend persists, it would translate to a loss of around $28 million over the course of the year. On top of that, there are losses from room occupancy tax and gaming tax.

Onondaga County has freed up $30 million from its budget in order to combat a certain revenue deficit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. County Executive Ryan McMahon said they have already frozen $25 million in austerity, and they have enacted a hiring freeze.

Another Onondaga County resident lost her life as a result of COVID-19. County Executive Ryan McMahon said a woman in her seventies lost her battle with the virus. She had underlying health conditions. However, McMahon also shared good news regarding the virus Monday.
