People in Onondaga County observed violating social distancing orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19 might get a visit from law enforcement.  Sheriff Gene Conway says most might only get a warning, as was the case for about 50 calls that have come in over the past 24 hours.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is facing a state budget deadline in less than a week, and he's out with a new proposal to try to cope as the state faces a multibillion-dollar budget gap.  There's also much uncertainty, with the economy shut down due to coronavirus.

Onondaga County now has 111 cases of COVID-19, a surge of 30 from Wednesday.  County executive Ryan McMahon says this is the backlog in results from last week’s tests that he’s been expecting.

Amid the COVID-19 news, it's almost easy to forget that the state budget is due in just one week.  State lawmakers say despite the corona virus outbreak, they intend to meet the deadline, and will use precautions to avoid meeting in large groups.  They face a daunting task of putting together a spending plan while a multi billion dollar deficit grows each day.

Onondaga County’s board of elections is among a growing movement across the state to postpone next month’s Presidential Primary until the June Congressional Primary due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Election Commissioner’s Association, State Attorney General, Common Cause, and others are pushing for the delay.

Onondaga County has lost its first resident to COVID-19.  County Executive Ryan McMahon shared the somber news at Tuesday afternoon’s update.

Many college students enrolled in local schools started classes again this week after spring break.  The isolation policies due to the coronavirus are affecting students’ learning … as well as organizations that help them. One student from Syracuse is trying to keep her dream alive amid the changes and restrictions.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Onondaga County is up just slightly from 45 Sunday to 53 Monday.  County Executive Ryan McMahon says he still wouldn’t be surprised to see larger spikes in positive cases as test results come back.

New York has now followed California and is ordering that as of 8 PM Sunday , all state residents stop going to work and stay in their homes unless they are working at jobs considered essential or they need groceries, medicine or gasoline.
