The Romaine lettuce recall from three weeks ago, right before Thanksgiving, is probably still fresh in the minds of many Central New Yorkers.  The shelves were bare at just about every supermarket and salads weren’t available at restaurants for at least a week due to e-coli contamination.

A Cornell University mass media expert says an E-cigarette manufacturer is pre-emptively announcing an end to its flavored nicotine product-line and related social media promotions ahead of an expected FDA ban. The FDA announced Thursday that it would not instate a complete ban of the product, but it would implement more restrictions on flavored e-cigarette sales.

The increased popularity of electronic cigarettes has gotten the attention of the FDA, which just launched a national campaign aimed at discouraging their use.


It appears New York State and Onondaga County have been a few steps ahead of federal law after news Thursday that the Food and Drug Administration was extending its oversight to all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.  Turns out local laws restricting youth access have been in place for years.
