About two dozen Syracuse-area residents criticized Congressmember John Katko Friday for his social media posts suggesting that Target employees received raises because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.  President of Unite Local 150, Ann Marie Taliercio  was among those from the CNY Solidarity coalition who gathered for a demonstration in front of Katko’s office building.  She says the post wasn’t true, and that the state's rising minimum wage is to credit.

Rep. Tenney Highlights Tax Reform at Suit-Kote; Declines to Clarify Controversial Comments

Republican Congressmember Claudia Tenney stopped by a Cortland-based paving company Thursday to highlight how the business and its workers will benefit from the federal tax reform law. The family-owned Suit-Kote Corporation has a payroll of $37 million for its 800 employees. President Frank Suits, Jr. says his personal taxes went up, but says the lower corporate tax rate is better for his company.

Governor Cuomo is slamming the tax overhaul plan passed by the House of Representatives, saying it will be “poison” to New York.

A range of groups, from businesses, school leaders and progressive activists in New York also spoke out against the House vote, and the provision to end the state and local tax deduction, saying they will be harmful to state residents.

The governor also criticized the tax plan as a corporate giveaway.

Central New York Congressmember John Katko says he voted no to the House Budget this week because he stressed the elimination of the State and Local Tax deduction would have adversely affected property tax payers in the state.  However, he’s optimistic that House Republicans will work it out.
