Governor Cuomo released his State of the State message and $143 billion budget spending plan, including $1 billion more  for schools next year , and ethics reforms.

Cuomo saved his plans for education and ethics reform for his speech, after already rolling out a massive infrastructure project that he says will make the late Governor Nelson Rockefeller “jealous”, calling for a statewide $15 minimum wage, and numerous other proposals.

Governor Cuomo is scheduled to give his State of the State speech on Wednesday. The governor has already spent the past week rolling out a lengthy agenda for the New Year.

Governor Cuomo has already announced more than a dozen separate proposals as part of a 10 day roll out of his agenda leading up to Wednesday’s formal speech.

Governor Cuomo continued to unroll his 2016 agenda Wednesday with a visit to Onondaga County.   He has been touring the state, unveiling pieces of his agenda ahead of next week’s combined state of the state and budget address.  It was probably no accident that he chose a venue just off the Thruway in Salina to make his latest announcement.  Cuomo says he wants to make the largest investment in upstate transportation infrastructure in history.

  Central New York’s Regional Economic Development Council continued its winning ways this year, walking away from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) and Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) Awards with a total of $500 million.

The region will receive the money over the course of five years in roughly $100 million increments.

Syracuse Area State Senator John DeFrancisco says controversial take it or leave it reforms within Governor Cuomo's proposed budget could make it the first late budget in four years. DeFrancisco chairs the Senate's Finance Committee, and says while they're willing to compromise, many are balking at proposed ethics and education reforms tied to critical funding.

Governor Cuomo delivered his joint State of the State and budget message, proposing a $141.6 billion spending plan that in part sets up a show down with teachers and education advocates. The governor wants 100 more charter schools and an overhaul of teacher evaluations, which he says are “baloney”, because virtually all teachers are rated as adequate.“98% of the teachers rated effective,” Cuomo said. “Who are we kidding, my friends?”

Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse has been chosen as one of eight hospitals across New York State to be  an Ebola treatment center.   It’s part of Governor Cuomo’s Ebola preparedness plan which he announced Thursday. Cuomo says he and the people of New York should not be surprised if a case of the virus occurred within the state.
