For any team to be successful they need to find that balance between solid offense and solid defense. But, let's be honest most of us would rather watch a really exciting offense versus a stifling defense. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast we are going shine the spotlight on the defense. In Syracuse's final home game of 2019, they will welcome a familiar foe, and tournament adversary, to the Carrier Dome on Tuesday, April 9, at 6:00. The No. 11 Syracuse Orange (6-3, 1-2), will take on the No. 10 Cornell Big Red (7-3, 2-2) in a rematch of the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, where the Big Red sent the Orange home early with a 10-9 victory.

Looking back at the past few seasons for Syracuse Men's Lacrosse there have been a few key factors that have resulted in wins. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, we examine those factors starting with Senior Nate Soloman. As WAER's Jonah Karp explains, it's pretty simple, when Soloman is scoring they win and when he isn't, they tend to lose.

But, before that we hear a little something about possession. They say it's 9/10's of the law and in lacrosse that might just be an understatement. WAER's J.D. Raucci tells us that for years now, winning faceoffs and maintaining possession has been a big part of SU victories.

The ACC  didn't fare so well in the Men's College Basketball Elite Eight this past weekend. That being said the ACC is still a powerhouse of a conference in men's lacrosse. It boasts teams such as Virignia, Syracuse, and Duke, all ranked in the Top 20. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, Tim Leonard looks at the conference as a whole and how it stacks up across the rest of Division One lacrosse.

Also this week, they don't call them the 'cardiac cuse' for no reason. Syracuse Men's Lacrosse has been clutch in the finals minutes this season.  WAER's Jonathan Hoppe has the story behind SU's late game success.

Each year when March rolls around it's easy to get caught up in the frenzy that is March Madness. Is the basketball team on the bubble? Can they reach the Sweet Sixteen this year? At times it can be easy to forget there is another perennial athletic powerhouse in the midst of their season.

Then, Tim Leonard tells us about the successful recruiting efforts of head coach John Desko that have landed talented freshman such as Griffin Cook.

Syracuse University Men's Lacrosse has a history of being a dominant force in college lacrosse. If they want to keep that claim this year they'll need susbstantial leadership from their team of captains. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, Jonah Karp explains that this year's captains have a interesting blend of old and new.

Also this week, Boston College might not impress you in the landscape of  ACC Men's Baskteball, but it hasn't always been that way. WAER's Tim Leonard reminds us that BC used to be a force in the conference and explain their plan to return to that state.

In Major League Baseball, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs fans went decades and decades without a championship. So, when you hear that Syracuse men's lacrosse is in a drought you might be skeptical.

Truth is, it's been four years since the Orange have made it to the lacrosse Final Four. And while that might not seem like a long time, as WAER's Dana Grey tell us, it's actually the longest such stretch in program history.

It was the sixth time the Syracuse university Men's Lacrosse team would find itself in a one-goal game this season.  But unlike four of the previous five, SU didn't find a way to pull it out at the end.  Virginia downed the Orange 11-10 Friday Night in a game that could have implications on where - or if - the team plays in the NCAA championships.

The search for top talent is a task many businesses and organization deal with each and every year. For Division One athletics the same struggle occurs when recruiting a new batch of players for your program.

WAER's Tyler Aki has the story of Syracuse University Men's Lacrosse and the talented individual they brought in, all the way from Portland, Oregon.
