It's hard to be part of a major university for over 30 years and not make a slew of connection along the way. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast,  the subject of both our stories have strong connections to Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim. First up is Mike Hopkins, who is now the head coach for the University of Washington.  WAER's Noah Eagle explains how even after his departure he's still impacting Syracuse hoops.

And then, there's almost no stronger connection one can have than that of  a blood relative. So  it's safe to say, Syracuse freshman Buddy Boeheim knows the coach pretty well. That being said, Buddy is a freshman and has had his share of ups and downs. WAER's JD Raucci tells us how the freshman has grown throughout the season. 


Prior to this year Syracuse University Football hadn't made it's way into the Top 25 Rankings since 2001. This year though SU has earned wins against schools like Florida State and North Carolina State resulting in its highets ranking since 1998. As fans enjoy the success this season, WAER's Tim Leonard reminds us of the long journey the program has taken to get back.

Also, Syracuse University will look to earn it's 8th win of the season in their next game against Louisville. Syracuse has struggled against the Cardinals recently, but WAER's Cooper Boardman explains why this time could be different.


It's rare for college football to have a true freshman break onto the scene and take the country by storm. That kind of fan fare is typically reserved for college basketball. Apparently, no one told that to Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who was recently named the team's starter.

Syracuse University Football continues to turns heads around the country with their impressive start this season. But this week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, we turn back the clock.
