Onondaga County is investing $100,000 to bridge the digital divide and lessen the impact of poverty. The tech pack program is run through the libraries and allows people to checkout a hotspot and a laptop computer for three weeks.
Onondaga County will provide tech packs throughout its library system to help those who don't have internet access at home.
A library – full of books and knowledge – might not seem like the right place for propaganda. But the Onondaga Central Library has just opened an inaugural exhibit of WWI and WWII propaganda posters on its third floor. Librarian in the local history and genealogy department Barbara Scheibel says the more than 400 posters were in various sizes and conditions after sitting in storage for the better part of three decades.
Visitors to Onondaga County’s Central Library in downtown Syracuse are now greeted with a first floor entrance and $8.7 million worth of renovations and upgrades on three levels. Executive Director of the library system Susan Mitchell says maybe the big red library sign on Salina street is what’s pulling people in.
