Microsoft has chosen Syracuse to be home to its first Smart Cities technology hub in the northeast.   It would be one of the next big pieces of the Syracuse Surge project to revitalize the neighborhoods just south of downtown.  City officials discussed the partnership Thursday with common councilors.

The City of Syracuse is getting a boost in its efforts to become the first large municipality in the state to test Smart City technologies.  The New York Power Authority has awarded a half million dollars to the project as part of the larger Syracuse Surge revitalization plan.

Syracuse Common Councilors could decide as early as next week whether to borrow 38 million dollars to purchase more than 17,000 street lights from National Grid and convert them to LED.
