Imagine a world where “Lebron James” wasn’t a household name. He was never on TV, never in the news, but just happened to show up on your YouTube feed. Well, that’s pretty much what happened for Syracuse Men’s Basketball Center, Jesse Edwards.

After a rocky opening day for fifth-ranked Syracuse men’s lacrosse, it seems as though the team has found its footing. The Orange have won three-straight games possessing one of the most potent scoring attacks in the country and a defense that seemed to take strides against Stony Brook, surrendering just nine goals and 23 shots on goal last Saturday. But, a chance to win four consecutive contests almost didn’t happen this week with an unidentified member of Hofstra testing positive for Covid-19.

Syracuse University is home to two of the top lacrosse programs in the country. The SU men’s team finished the abbreviated 2020 season ranked #1 in the country. After four games this year, the Orange are ranked 6th according to Inside Lacrosse.

Across campus, the Syracuse women’s lacrosse team is off to an even hotter start in 2021. The Orange are undefeated through four games, and ranked #2 in the most recent Inside Lacrosse poll.   Every team the SU women have faced so far is nationally ranked. Even so, three of their four wins have come by ten or more goals.

There were no fans this time around for the Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse game. Nevertheless, SU handled business on Friday, downing Stony Brook 17-9.

Three games in, it seems seventh-ranked Syracuse men’s lacrosse is still trying to figure itself out. It has one of the best midfield lines in the nation, one of the best attack lines in the nation, but the biggest question mark for this team is the defense. SU was gassed against Army, stellar against Virginia when it held UVA to zero goals in the fourth quarter, but made some fans second guess themselves after Vermont.

Despite all that, head coach John Desko thinks the Orange defense played just fine in Saturday’s 17-13 win over the Catamounts.

It was the first time in exactly 364 days that there were fans present for the Syracuse men’s lacrosse game.

SU hosted first-time opponent Vermont in the Dome and narrowly won 17-13. The difference came from both upperclassmen and underclassmen. Redshirt fifth year Stephen Rehfuss and Freshmen Owen Hiltz combined for 13 points to lead the effort for Syracuse.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a start for the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team. The Orange opened the season with an uncharacteristic and somewhat disappointing 18-11 loss to number seven Army inside the Dome. Things seemed slightly out of sync considering the Orange finished last season ranked number one before the COVID-19-induced shutdown. Fast forward to a week later, though, and the Cuse manhandled Virginia at home. The first half was fairly close, SU took a 9-7 lead into the break. The second half was where the Orange excelled.
