  Syracuse women’s basketball star Tiana Mangakahia continues chemotherapy to treat her stage-two breast cancer, and she says she's felt enormous support from the surrounding community. Thousands have taken to twitter to support her by using the hashtag #Tough4T. 

Mangakahia spoke to the media on Tuesday and emphasized how crucial the community’s support has been over the first four weeks of her treatment.

Historic protests in Puerto Rico forced Governor Ricardo Rosselló to resign Thursday after conversations leaked of he and his advisers making homophobic and misogynistic remarks. Puerto Rican natives here in Syracuse say they, and members of their family who still live on the island, haven’t seen protests of this magnitude.

Driverless vehicles, drones, and other forms of artificial intelligence are starting to enter our lives. Syracuse University launched a first of its kind institute to study these autonomous systems this past May. The Autonomous Systems Policy Institute or ASPI plans to take an interdisciplinary approach, bringing a number of its schools together to focus on autonomous systems.

The Secretary of the Veterans Administration says Central New York Veterans will receive even more care options when the MISSION Act goes into effect next month. 

In an interview with WAER’s John Smith, Robert Wilkie says there will be new access and availability standards for healthcare implemented both here and across the country.  Wilkie applauds the quality of care at the Syracuse VA and the commitment of Syracuse University to serve veterans and their families.

Syracuse University’s National Veterans Resource Center will be taking shape through the summer and open in early spring 2020.  Crews were busy this morning installing one of the first glass panels on the building’s exterior.  The center will provide a centralized place for veterans to gather for classes and a state-of-the-art information lab.
