During her time at Syracuse University, guard Brittney Sykes scored 1,846 points. That ranks Sykes as the third all-time scorer in program history. As a junior she led the Syracuse University Women's basketball team to the NCAA Championship Game before falling to undefeated Connecticut. 

Brittney recently stopped by the WAER studio to chat with Sports Director Jack McMullen about her time on the hill, life in the WNBA, and more.


For a while now Syracuse, New York has had a reputation as a basketball city. Stars like Carmelo Anthony and Gerry McNamara long with coach Jim Boeheim has propelled Syracuse Unviersity Men's basketball to the forefront in Central New York. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, Dana Grey tells us that there is a new show in town, and it's Syracuse Women's Basketball.

Also this week, Jim Boeheim is known for being a coach who expects a lot from his players. But, that style of coaching apparently isn't for everyone. WAER's Corey Spector compares the freshman struggles of Syracuse guard Jalen Carey to previous player who have left the program.


For a change, getting to the NCAA Tournament isn't a cause for celebration for Quentin Hillsman or his Syracuse women's basketball team.

The Orange earned a No. 8 seed in the Greensboro region and returns to the NCAA Tournament for the third season in a row, a new program record.  Syracuse will face the ninth-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday night in Columbia, South Carolina in a game that will be televised on ESPN2.

"It’s big for the program," junior guard Brianna Butler said on returning to the NCAA Tournament. "It’s big for the school and big for our team."
