Intending to feed hungry low-income residents across the state, the New York State Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling law resulted in the collection of 1 million pounds of food.
The program, which focuses on food insecurity while benefiting the environment, is administered by the Department of Environmental Conservation and Feeding New York State. The donations feed hungry New Yorkers and reduce waste in the state’s trash stream.
It also helps keep food from ending up in landfills, preventing climate-altering emissions.
