Three-time Syracuse mayoral candidate Alfonso Davis was arrested at the Greater Rochester International Airport with a loaded gun Monday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

In a tweet, Transportation Security Administration spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said the gun was concealed in a sling, inches away from his hand, and he claimed he forgot the weapon was with him. A press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said Davis is being charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and a firearm in a sensitive location, also a felony.

Most recently, Davis was one of two finalists to fill the 5th District Syracuse Common Council seat vacated by Joe Driscoll. The council ultimately selected Jimmy Monto to fill the seat.
