The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has lifted its drought watch designation for Central New York and more than two dozen other upstate counties after recent rainfall and higher levels of ground and surface water.
The state issued the drought watch in August after three months of below-normal precipitation caused low stream flows and low groundwater levels. Those conditions continue in the lower Hudson Valley and on most of Long Island, where several counties remain under a drought watch.
