With spring underway, the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency, or OCRRA, is calling on volunteers for its annual Earth Day cleanup.

The yearly beautification event is set for Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22, according to a news release from the agency. Interested participants have until April 12 to sign up. The two-day pick-up draws local companies and families to collect litter from the county's grounds and waterways.

Each year, officials weigh the gathered refuse to show participants their impact. Since the beginning of the program in 1991, over 2.8 million pounds of litter have been removed from the community.

Participants can sign-up with a group, join another team or engage as a solo volunteer. Earth Day in the U.S. is April 22.
