Upstate Medical seeking teen volunteers for Lyme disease vaccine trial

Upstate Medical University announced they are looking for teens to test out a new Lyme disease vaccine.

Specifically, the university looking for 100 participants between 12 and 17 years old, according to a release from Upstate, according to the university. The clinical trial is expected to last two years and participants will receive four shots throughout the process.

The research is part of a larger Pfizer trial that started in 2022.

Lyme disease has been found in increasing numbers in Central New York, according to a release. The tick surveillance program at Upstate has tested more than 27,000 ticks since 2019. They found that a third of the results were carrying one or more pathogens or disease-causing organisms.

This is currently the only Lyme disease vaccine in the clinical trial phase.
