Some Onondaga County residents will be eligible for a booster of the COVID-19 vaccine this week. Shots will be available at pharmacies and certain primary care doctor’s offices. Also, Onondaga County has partnered with Kinney Drugs to hold a mass booster clinic at the OnCenter on Wednesday from 9am to 4 pm.

There will be a second clinic on Thursday September 30th. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said the hours for the second clinic will be based off of how many people go to the first clinic.

Booster shots are only for people who have received 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine at least 6 months ago. Individuals who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine have not been approved for boosters by the Centers for Disease Control.

You are eligible for a booster shot this week if you:

  • are 65 years old or older
  • live in a long-term care facility
  • have an underlying condition
  • work in a public facing job, such as corrections officers, food service workers, and health care workers.

Pre-registration is necessary for the county-run clinic. More information can be found on Kinney Drugs or Onondaga County’s website.
