CNY Decides is a partnership between award winning Syracuse newsrooms WAER and Central Current. In this first episode of the limited political series, we take a look at the process party chairs follow for picking candidates to run.
Then, WAER host Bob Beck sits down with political reporter Eddie Velazquez to hear what's behind this week's Central Current story reviewing Onondaga County Legislator Maurice "Mo" Brown's decision to challenge well-known incumbent New York Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli.

Bob Beck, a veteran media professional, currently serves as a part-time editor/host at WAER Public Radio and an adjunct professor at Syracuse University. Beck retired as News Director at Wyoming Public Radio in 2022 after 34 years. During his time, Beck won 5 regional Edward R. Murrow awards and 5 Public Media Journalists Association awards for reporting. He also won 11 PMJA awards for the news and public affairs program Open Spaces. He was awarded the Wyoming School Bell award for education reporting and was part of two Emmy Award winning television productions. You can find him on X under the name @butterbob.<br/><br/><br/>
Jack Siciliano is an undergraduate student studying Magazine, News, and Digital Journalism at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, expected to graduate in May 2027. As a content producer at WAER, Jack helps produce digital and radio stories.
