The snow is expected to keep falling on Central New York this weekend. Officials say up to a foot could cover the area by Sunday.
Winds in some areas could reach up to 45 mph, the National Weather Service's Binghamton office posted on social media.
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday directed state agencies to plan their emergency response and urged New Yorkers to take common-sense precautions.
"Avoid driving if possible so our plows can keep the roads clear, and monitor your local forecast to assess local conditions," Hochul said in a news release from her office.
However, the weather service said if people must travel, they should pack a flashlight, food and water in case of an emergency.
