Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation to add a representative of women’s health service providers to the table as part of the Public Health and Health Planning Council.
The move is to ensure all public health decisions that involve either women’s health or facilities that specialize in their care will be advised by those who hold an appropriate level of expertise.
In a statement, Hochul said the action was necessary as the fundamental right to abortion appears to be in jeopardy by the U.S. Supreme Court.
She said the development makes it critical to ensure equitable access to women’s reproductive health in New York and to drive attention to the difficulties and unique health care issues facing women.
