Gov. Kathy Hochul is encouraging state residents to get their COVID-19 vaccinations and stay up on their boosters as COVID case rates are increasing across New York and in Onondaga County.

The governor announced in a statement Monday that new doses targeting the omicron variant are available in the state.

"As we continue to navigate the start of the fall season, I urge all New Yorkers to take steps to better protect themselves against COVID-19," Hochul said in a statementfrom her office.

The state is seeing about 21 cases of Covid per 100,000 residents, according to the state's rolling seven-day average. A week prior, that figure was around 17 cases per 100,000.

Locally, the county is reporting a seven-day average of 26 cases per 100,000 residents, an increase from just under 18 cases the week before, state data showed.
